Community Councils exist to represent the views of people in their local community. They are voluntary bodies and exist as the most local form of statutory representation in Scotland, but are not part of local government.
Community Councils are included in the consultation process for all planning applications and are recognised as competent bodies to make representations regarding applications.
Community Councils are also statutory consultees on all applications for provisional/premises licences and major variations to premises licences.
It is the responsibility of a Community Council to satisfy Glasgow City Council that they have taken positive steps to ascertain the views of the wider community within their area, before making representations on any matter, on behalf of the community.
Community Councillors are volunteers, and are elected, with elections every five years. The last Community Council elections were in October 2019.
The Community Council boundary extends all the way to Spey Road in the West, where it borders with Bearsden, and to the roundabout next to Aldi in the south, which is part of Old Drumchapel and Blairdardie.
The Community Council currently has 10 community councillors and meets on the second Monday of most months at the Goodyear Social Club.
Meetings are open to the public and an agenda is published before each meeting. Minutes are available afterwards, once approved. They are usually approved at the next meeting.
